The more you understand about any subject, the more interesting it becomes. As you read this article you’ll find that the subject of Stock Market is certainly no exception.

The stock market is also known as the equity market where companies have access to capital and investors. Once investors had bought shares of the company, they look forward to potential gains of their investments in the future performance of the company.

Stock exchanges

With the exchanges as the main players, the stock market is like a big superstore, a buying and selling place where people buy stocks. These exchanges are where the buyers and sellers are matched.

The primary exchanges in the U.S. are the NASDAQ, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), all of the ECNs (electronic communication networks) and some regional exchanges like the American Stock Exchange and the Pacific Stock Exchange.

A few years back, all the trading was done in the traditional exchanges like the NYSE and the like. Now, almost all the trading is done through the NASDAQ which uses ECNs and thousands of other firms with access to the NASDAQ for trading.

Electronic buy-and-sell

Here is a sample on how a stock market transaction is done today. First, you open an account with say, E*Trade by sending E*Trade a $1,000 check. E*Trade then deposits the check into a trading account listed under your name.

You log on to E*Trade and place an order to buy 100 shares of stock in Company X. (The stock is currently trading at $5.) E*Trade uses its networks to tell NASDAQ and all its related networks that there is a demand for 100 shares of Company X.

NASDAQ finds someone who is willing to sell 100 shares of Company X and instantly facilitate the trading of stocks between you and the person selling the shares.

Most of this information comes straight from the Stock Market pros. Careful reading to the end virtually guarantees that you’ll know what they know.

The data is sent to a clearinghouse where it is processed and the shares will now be registered to you. The actual stock certificates are held ?in street names? and do not need to change hands, although you can request that the certificates be transferred to your name.

How stocks get valued

Stocks are valued two ways. One is created using some type of cash flow, sales or fundamental earnings analysis.

The most common is the P/E ratio (Price to Earnings Ratio). This valuation method is based on historic ratios and statistics. The aim is to assign value to a stock based on measurable attributes. The form is what usually drives long-term stock prices.

Supply and demand

The other valuation follows how much the investors is willing to sell them. Both of these values changes as investors change the way they analyze stocks. In short, the stocks are valued based on supply and demand.

If more people want to buy them, the price goes higher. Conversely, the more people that want to sell the stocks, the lower the price.

Market forces

In the short run, the market is driven by simple human emotions of greed and fear. In periods of prosperity, the market usually rises above its real earnings.

In tough times, political uncertainties and other negative factors, the stock market often performs worse than its underlying fundamentals. In the long run, however, the stock market is driven by several underlying economic, financial and global growth.

Don’t limit yourself by refusing to learn the details about Stock Market. The more you know, the easier it will be to focus on what’s important.

Generally speaking the Stock Market refers to equities where actually stocks and derivatives are traded. In the U.S.A. we think the Stock Market is New York City. In fact there are major Stock Markets in Hong Kong, Hamburg, London, Paris, Canada, Japan and others that influence one another and impact the world Stock Market.

The New York Stock Exchange may have stocks listed that are listed on other major Stock Markets. A company headquartered in Amsterdam may be listed on multiple stock exchanges. Many foreign organized companies are listed on the New York Stock Exchange. There is a tremendous value for foreign companies to be listed on an exchange in the U.S. The exposure and knowledge of a foreign company has a face on the New York Stock Market.

An example would be a China stock Baidu. These information and search technology company has grown in leaps and bounds since it was introduced on the New York Market. Sometimes all it takes is making a good impression to stock analysts and a good review by key people to give the foreign company a boost.

The reality of the Stock Market today is its world wide integration of investors, companies and alliances that create an unprecedented dynamic. Thus far this United Nations of the financial markets has produced an unspoken treaty of like minds. The main objective is to create a win-win scenario for all of the world players in the Stock Market.

Any investor wherever located may hold a substantial stake in any given equity no matter where the equity is traded. The Stock Market is a very large private club that anyone can join with the only admission ticket is the price of a single share of stock.

If you base what you do on inaccurate information, you might be unpleasantly surprised by the consequences. Make sure you get the whole Stock Market story from informed sources.

Most people are aware of American companies utilizing off shore manufacturing of their products. It may be not as well known that some traditional American brand companies are owned by foreign companies. Other American brand companies have a significant multi-national presence with significant stock ownership by foreign banks and investors.

The term equity should be broadly interpreted. There are equities that involve the manufacturing of products and goods, but a product can be intellectual or an entity like insurance. Banks are equities and financial brokers are all traded on the various exchanges. An investor may own gold stocks, mining companies and equities that package these equities into a corporate entity. The only limitation is that if the investor is interested in owning the commodity or trading in the futures market the Chicago Mercantile or other commodities exchanges is the investing tool.

In other words you may own a bank as an equity who may have bonds and other commercial paper that may trade on the commodities exchanges, but you can’ t buy a commodity as a stock. If you want a commodity like wheat, currency, corn, gold, silver or the like you need to look to the commodities exchange.

In the United States the New York Stock Market is comprised of the NASDAQ, NYSE and the newly created combination of the NYSE Group with Euronext in April, 2007. The Euronext holding company is a phenomenal synergy between Paris and the NYSE whose history goes back to 1792.

The Euronext is a combination of derivatives, currency and equities to name a sample of products. There are other exchanges that include the AMEX. There are listing requirements for each of the exchanges. The Stock Market is basically a place where buyers and seller of a piece of a company come together and in the process the company hopefully raises some cash or other value.

Hopefully the sections above have contributed to your understanding of Stock Market. Share your new understanding about Stock Market with others. They’ll thank you for it.

Are you looking for some inside information on Stock Market? Here’s an up-to-date report from Stock Market experts who should know.

There are only two ways that generally happen in a stock market ? being in a bull market or in a bear market. This is the classic economic tug of war that makes for interesting times and conditions in stock markets anywhere else in the world.

A bear market, as everyone knows, is that general and continuous downward movement of the stock market. On the other end, a bull market indicates the constant upward movement of the stock market.

When a particular stock seems to increase in value, it is described as bullish. A stock that seems to decrease its value is describes as bearish.

Bear and bull indicators

Short term market fluctuations, however, are not indicative of bull or bear markets. A bear market is when the price of key stocks fell by 20% or more for at least two months.

Prices, of course, sometimes temporarily increase within a bear market. Bull markets, on the other hand, indicate a rise in the prices of key stocks over a certain period of time.

Economic indicators

Usually, the state of the country’s economy is reflected in the conditions within the stock market. With an economy with reasonable rates and low unemployment, the condition is regarded bullish.

During a country’s economic slowdown, bear markets occur in the stock market. Investors lose their confidence and companies start laying off its workers.

An exaggerated bear market usually leads to an economic crash brought on by panic selling. An exaggerated bull market usually leads to a market bubble brought about by investor over-enthusiasm.

If you don’t have accurate details regarding Stock Market, then you might make a bad choice on the subject. Don’t let that happen: keep reading.

Bull markets

As expected, a bullish market generates a big number of investors who want to buy stocks. At times like this, the economy is usually doing very well.

It is not surprising that many people would want to buy stocks because they have the extra money. This, however, triggers an increase in stock prices because there will be a shortage in the supply and the demand for them is great.

Making money during bull markets is easier. All dips are temporary, and are corrected in time. Because the upward swing of prices cannot go on forever, the investors need to unload their stocks when the market reaches its peak.

Bear markets

During bear markets, a lot of investors typically unload their stocks and stash their money is fixed-run investments (like bonds). In these times, supply tends to exceed demand as money is withdrawn from the stock market.

On the bright side, bear markets are the most opportune times of picking up stocks at bargain prices. Usually, the greatest chance of making profits is at the end of a bear market. Since prices usually fall before they recover, investors prepare themselves for some short-term losses.

Strategies

During bear markets, investors usually resort to other investment strategies. One is short-selling. This involves the selling of stocks that investors do not own in the anticipation of further decreases in price.

This gives the investors a chance to buy the stocks for a lower price than their previous prices. Fixed-return investments are also used by investors to generate income.

Finally, they buy defensive stocks (including government-owned utilities) because of their relative safety to price downward roll in bear times at the stock market.

There’s a lot to understand about Stock Market. We were able to provide you with some of the facts above, but there is still plenty more to write about in subsequent articles.

Traditionally, stock market transactions are done in trading houses generally called stock exchanges. These are the places where buyers and sellers of stocks meet and do business on expansive trading floors.

The original intent of a stock market is to facilitate trading between buyers and sellers in one place to reduce risks. Simply put, the stock market is nothing more than a sophisticated farmer’s market of buyers and sellers doing their business.

Traditional exchange floors

Like any other market place, people in these sites could become agitated and noisy and just plain excited with the prospects of earning money.

Sometimes, you can see glimpses of these transactions in news reports ? traders talking on two-way radios or telephones, waving and yelling, and furiously sending signals with the other traders on the floor.

Virtual stock exchanges

Lately, with the advent of the computer and the development of the internet, another type of stock market exchanges came into existence. These are the virtual stock market exchanges, usually a network connected by computers where the trading is transacted electronically.

Market types

The stock market has two distinct types of market ? the primary and the secondary market.

The primary market is the place where securities are created by means of IPO (initial public offering). The secondary market is where investors trade previously-issued stocks without the participation of the issuing owner-companies.

This is the market we all know (and see) today at the stock market exchange floors. (In the stock market business, the company need not take part in the trading of its stocks.)

It’s really a good idea to probe a little deeper into the subject of Stock Market. What you learn may give you the confidence you need to venture into new areas.

NYSE

The New York Stock Exchange is the most prestigious in the world. It was founded more than 200 years ago in New York City by the original 24 stockbrokers and merchants.

With companies like Wal-Mart, General Electric, Coca-cola, McDonald’s, Citigroup, and Gillette among others in its rosters, the NYSE is the market of choice for the biggest U.S. companies.

Traditional trading

In NYSE, the first type of exchange was done on the trading floor on a man-to-man basis. From the brokerage firms, orders go down to the brokers who transact business at the trading post where buyers and sellers are matched.

The prices are determined using the auction method ? the current price is the highest amount the buyer is willing to pay, and the lowest price someone is selling. As soon as a trade is completed, the deal is sent to the investor who placed the order via the broker.

NASDAQ

The new and 2nd type of exchange is the virtual kind called an over-the-counter (OTC) market, led by the very popular NASDAQ. These markets do not own central locations or floor brokers. Trading is completed through a computer-and-telecommunications network of dealers.

The tech boom of the 90s made NASDAQ a serious NYSE competitor today. Now, the NASDAQ is home to many of the largest technology companies (Microsoft, Oracle, Cisco, Dell, Intel and others).

Other exchanges

All the major cities and business hubs around the world have their own exchanges and trading houses. Some are still doing traditional man-to-man transactions while others are into the modern high-tech models of selling and buying stocks.

Whatever trading models are used (traditional or high-tech), the stock market is here to stay.

When word gets around about your command of Stock Market facts, others who need to know about Stock Market will start to actively seek you out.

When most people think of Stock Market, what comes to mind is usually basic information that’s not particularly interesting or beneficial. But there’s a lot more to Stock Market than just the basics.

China’s economy has been soaring for some time. It is possible the growth potential is only at the starting point. During the years of its world seclusion. China as a country amassed trillions of dollars in its coffers. American companies that have relocated some of their operations to China has added even more capital to the China economy. The Chinese are wise investors and do not seem to make a bad deal in any of their financial transactions. China calls the shots in the deal making process.

This year in particular China is going through a massive infra structure and building phase within China to prepare for the 2008 Olympics. This factor has increased China’s tremendous building phase in manufacturing aluminum, building trades and the railroad industry. In the area of communication China has stepped up its manufacturing and distribution of products. China also has plans to build a small economy car called the Chery Automobile.

For all the reasons mentioned above and the overall strength of the China economy this could be a good time to buy China stocks. The average American can purchase China stock on the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ Exchange. The other avenue available is the mutual fund or spider that is geared to Asian or China investments only. These funds do exist and are doing exceptionally well.

Specific China Stocks:

The need for raw materials and manufacturing of materials is a high priority for China. One particular shining star is Aluminum Corp China. It trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the stock ticker ACH. This is an $8.7 billion dollar market cap company. It has seen tremendous gains in the past two years. The growth spurt almost seems endless due to China’s demand for aluminum and other metals. The stock is currently selling in the high $60 range. The major institutional holders are John Hancock Trust-Natural Resources, Allianz, Goldman Sachs and other prized investor funds.

Hopefully the information presented so far has been applicable. You might also want to consider the following:

In the technology areas Chinese companies have some interesting choices. The web company and software technology and mobile phone application company CDC Corp. is a low cost stock to watch. The stock sells under the stock ticker CHINA. It is currently a $6.40 stock that can easily make its mark at $11 and higher. The Olympic 2008 event in Beijing is expected to boost their technologies.

A great information and search engine company is Baidu. It trades under the stock ticker BIDU. For whatever reason the brains on Wall Street love this stock. It sells in the $200 plus range, but it rivals the likes of Google. It is a stock to watch.

Mutual Funds:

The investor looking to invest in China and Asian Markets should definitely consider the mutual funds offered by various family of funds. Nearly all of the large fund companies have a fund that is designed for for exposure to the growth in China. Alger China Growth, Thornburg Global Opportunities, Evergreen Opportunities Fund, American Funds, Oppenheimer and Allianz all have great funds with good returns.

If you are interested in China stocks discuss it with your advisor or ask one of the funds mentioned above to send you a prospectus.

Now you can understand why there’s a growing interest in Stock Market. When people start looking for more information about Stock Market, you’ll be in a position to meet their needs.

This interesting article addresses some of the key issues regarding Stock Market. A careful reading of this material could make a big difference in how you think about Stock Market.

If you are one of those who are trying to get his or her luck in the stock market by trading, then the best thing that you could do is to familiarize yourself with the nature of the venture.

It is best if you have already mastered the basics when it comes to stock market and trading so you will know exactly what are you getting into. If you are already armed with the basics, then you could somehow estimate where your involvement in stock trading could take you.

The keys to success

If you are not careful and prepared enough, chances are you are not going to make it in stock market. This is because the industry?being the largest in the world that generates billions of transactions non-stop?takes a lot of knowledge, experience, guts, and decisiveness in order to be successful.

To be able to become successful in the stock market, one must be very wise in dealing with transactions. One must also know where to trade, the peak season for the trading, the techniques to be used, and the updated strategies to generate as many transactions as possible.

Knowledge can give you a real advantage. To make sure you’re fully informed about Stock Market, keep reading.

Aside from the qualities mentioned, you can survive the world of trading in stock market if you:

- have the ability to decide on the length of the transactions. This is very, very crucial for a trader to ensure that he or she still has a portion of the market that can be penetrated. A successful smart trader should decide first if he or she would go long term or short term on the process. This is a very crucial decision because it will somehow give direction to the transaction and will somehow give a hint, which one will be very successful for you.

- controlling emotions. The biggest problems that majority of the traders in the stock market are having the idea what to expect in the industry. Studies show that the biggest problem that most people in trading stocks experience is dealing with their emotions.

- have enough guts to start big. Although short term stock trading can do a beginner good?by closing transactions in short period of time?it will do them bad in the future because these have no stability. They say that it is better to plot a stock and trade it to ensure that this is where the direction and stability can be seen.

- have the ability to detach from emotional baggage. This is indeed very hard because most of the time?especially in the times of need to generate transactions?traders become anxious that there will be no transaction that will take place within the day. There are also those that let their emotions rule over their rational thinking, which usually leads to incorrect means of dealing with the problem at hand. Although it’s human nature to experience certain levels of emotional dilemma, it is best to detach yourself from these if you really want to be successful in the stock market.

Would you like to find out what those-in-the-know have to say about Stock Market? The information in the article below comes straight from well-informed experts with special knowledge about Stock Market.

Trading in the stock market has continued to become so viable because of the fact that this is literally the field that doesn’t sleep. The reason behind this is that when it comes to trading stocks, the transactions of services and businesses are being held 24/7 in a fast and reliable system and approaches.

Before one thinks of trading in stock market, it would be best if you understand that not all people are fit for this industry. Accepting that not all people can indulge into it without proper credentials and experience on the finance industry and in the stock market, would pave the way for success since you would not be complacent.

To be prepared, it would also pay to get information through research?which could either be online or by reading reference materials such as business magazines and books. You can also get additional knowledge if you ask people who have tried their luck in stock trading and get first-hand tips from their experience. If you want to get exposure, you can experience the thrill and the excitement of stock trading by visiting the stock market and observe how it works as well as how people inside handle it.

What matters most

Many experts say that knowing all the basics in trading and in the stock market are very important because these keep you up to date with everything that is going on.

Most of this information comes straight from the Stock Market pros. Careful reading to the end virtually guarantees that you’ll know what they know.

But, if you really want to be successful in this field, it is a must that you know the common pitfalls that have been committed by most stock traders. By knowing what these mistakes are, you can avoid them and can even develop various strategies to complement various unavoidable circumstances.

The following are the most common mistakes most trading neophytes?and even those in the business for a short span of time?commit. Make sure that you memorize them by heart to avoid committing and repeating the same mistakes.

If you are new into stock trading, you must know that:

- the records that trading stock market can create are not reliable at all times. Many first time traders believe that the records that trading robots create are trusted so they don’t do back research. If you want to be notches higher, do not always rely on these reports because chances are, these are manipulated or made up with no actual basis.

- the money can be made through day trading or scalping. This is also another big bluff in the stock trading industry because simulations are used to promote and create transactions that are not based on actual statistics. Don’t rely on the voices that you hear?either online or in the stock trading market?because these only aim to lure you into transactions that don’t guarantee anything.

- many would rely on the short-term goals in trading in the stock market not knowing that this doesn’t guarantee success in the future. For many, this is because short terms can be random and fluctuates easily, thus, not ensuring anything on your transactions in the coming years.

So now you know a little bit about Stock Market. Even if you don’t know everything, you’ve done something worthwhile: you’ve expanded your knowledge.

Imagine the next time you join a discussion about Stock Market. When you start sharing the fascinating Stock Market facts below, your friends will be absolutely amazed.

It is important for the individual investor to know about Mutual Funds. For some people the decision to invest in Mutual Funds is based on the premise that it is low risk investing. By in large this may be true, but it depends on the Mutual Fund and in particular the fund manager.

A Mutual Fund is a collection of stocks and other investments that are packaged by an investment company. Generally speaking it is a means by which the average pay check earner may enter the stock market. Some Mutual Funds require only a $1,000 initial investment and a small number of Mutual Funds may be purchased with as low as an initial $250 initial investment.

The key to investing in Mutual Funds is to read and evaluate the individual prospectives available to potential investors. You may review the performance of the Mutual Fund on-line or request the prospective by mail. The prospective gives you the Mutual Funds performance over the past quarters, years and decades. It also provides you with the fees that are charged to investors of Mutual Funds.

Certain Mutual Funds are no-load funds. Generally these funds are offered by state and municipal entities. It means the fund does not charge a fee to invest and is exempt to some taxes. There may be other charges for handling your Mutual Funds and charges if you decide to withdraw funds or move your investment elsewhere. This knowledge is essential before you commit a single dime to a Mutual Fund.

Your investigation should include the name of the stocks and other investments the Mutual Fund you are considering is currently investing. This point is critical because knowledge of the broader market is essential in determining if a particular fund is going to do well. If you have a penchant for global stocks , technology, financial or energy stocks you want to be assured these sectors are doing well in the overall stock market.

Once you begin to move beyond basic background information, you begin to realize that there’s more to Stock Market than you may have first thought.

Some investors own single equities and Mutual Funds along with other investments in their portfolio. Most brokerage houses have financial planners who can review all of your investments including realty, equities, bonds and Mutual Funds to give you a full picture of your financial health and goals for your investing.

As with the stock exchanges Mutual Funds investing allows the investor to determine their risk level. There are municipal bonds funds, blue chips funds, growth funds, Asian Funds, Emerging Markets and combinations in between. The investor determines the choice of investment by his or her objective. For some it is for retirement, others income and tax consequences. The range of risk is provided by most Mutual Fund investment companies.

There are some excellent advisory services that provide star ratings on various Mutual Funds. The Morningstar advisors have up to date information on the health of various funds. There are also articles in the Wall Street Journal and Investors Daily about Mutual Fund Managers. There are stars in the Mutual Fund field. The star manager is only as good as his or her last year earnings. It is important to know who is doing well currently before you invest.

There are several families of Mutual Funds I would recommend reviewing. The Vanguard Funds, Fidelity, Oppenheimer and American Mutual Funds. Within these family of Mutual Funds there is a fund for about any level of interest and risk level. The information is available on-line or by mail.

The current bothersome area in the real estate market in particular sub-prime loans for at risk buyers is yet to be fleshed out on a global scale. The possible spill over effect to banks, financial institutions, mortgage companies and the commercial paper they have sold may be a factor in your consideration of which Mutual Fund to select. The true impact at this point is speculative as to the ripple effect that may ensue if the small percentage of risky mortgages end up in foreclosures. Presently the effect is an unwelcome squeeze in the credit market making it difficult to get loans for individuals and some lending institutions.

As with any uncertainty a good rule of thumb is to seek out Mutual Funds with a minimal amount of exposure to sub-prime mortgage woes. The Blue Chip or America’s stand-by stocks may have some advantages as some are undervalued. The technology and some exposure to China and Emerging Markets may be worth a look. Most Mutual Funds companies have stocks and investments that may fit the current trends and moods in the financial markets. Review the institutional investors in each fund. A rule of thumb is that big institutional investors generally do not invest in “dog” investments.

There’s a lot to understand about Stock Market. We were able to provide you with some of the facts above, but there is still plenty more to write about in subsequent articles.

You should be able to find several indispensable facts about Stock Market in the following paragraphs. If there’s at least one fact you didn’t know before, imagine the difference it might make.

What, exactly, is the stock market?
How does a stock market operate?

In this day and age, there are still people who have heard about the stock market but are really clueless on the many things connected with it. The following are some definitions and short explanations about the stock market and its various features.

Stock market

Also known as the equity market, the stock market is one of the many vital areas of a country’s economy. Its main function is to provide companies access to capital and investors.

The investors, on the other hand, want a slice of ownership of a company with an eye for potential gains hinged on the future performance of the company.

Stocks and ownership

Basically, a stock is a share in the ownership of a company, and a claim to a part of the company’s assets and earnings. Consequently, the more stocks (or shares or equity) you have, the bigger your ownership stake in the company becomes.

Having some of the company’s stocks means you are one of the many owners (or shareholders) of the company. Technically, you own a very small piece of everything the company owns including its furniture and equipments, its contracts and also its debts.

As owner, you are entitled to your share of the company’s earnings. Some types of stocks also entitle you to some voting rights.

Stock exchanges

These are the entities (corporations or organizations) where the stocks are listed and traded. Their business is to bring buyers and sellers of stocks together, thus providing a marketplace (real and virtual) where real-time trading information is exchanged.

You may not consider everything you just read to be crucial information about Stock Market. But don’t be surprised if you find yourself recalling and using this very information in the next few days.

Stock market participants can be small individual stock investors or large hedge fund traders and their orders are taken care of by professional brokers who execute them.

Some exchanges are physical locations with trading floors where bids and offers are entered verbally. Other exchanges are virtual network of computers where trading is done electronically from traders at their computer terminals.

Trading

Trading is done when a potential buyer bids for a specific price for a stock and a potential seller asks a specific price for the stock.

Buying or selling at market means there is acceptance to the bid price or ask price for a stock. When there is a match between bid and ask prices, a sale takes place.

This is usually on a first-come-first-served basis, which works fine because sometimes there are multiple bidders or askers for the same price.

In the United States, all stock market trading includes all those listed in such exchanges as the NYSC, NASDAQ and AMEX, including the other regional exchanges like the OTCBB, and Pink Sheets. Other countries have their own stock exchanges.

Types of exchanges

The trading at the New York Stock Exchange is a physical one, the trading being done on a face to face basis on the trading floor. (This is sometimes called ?listed? exchange because only stocks listed with the exchange may be traded.)

At the NASDAQ, all the virtual trading is done over a computer network. The trading procedure is the same as that at the NYSE. The seller gives out the asking price and the buyer provides the bidding price, after which both buyers and sellers are matched electronically.

That, in a nut shell, is how a stock market operates.

It never hurts to be well-informed with the latest on Stock Market. Compare what you’ve learned here to future articles so that you can stay alert to changes in the area of Stock Market.
